Associate choreographer & performer;
Alicia Newcom (married name Jin), she/her. Associate choreographer & performer.
At my core, I’m a human who believes we should see and respect each others’ humanity, and that fuels my work as an associate choreographer and performer. I strive for integrity and alignment with that in all I do — I say strive because anything worth striving for comes with guaranteed failure and mistakes. Mistakes that I hope teach me and shape me into a continuously evolving version of myself, but always striving towards integrity.
I am leader. I lead through art, love, and words.
I lead through art; I’m an associate choreographer and performer. I want my art to contribute to and grow spaces, stories, and artists who believe humanity is at the core of all we do. I love being an associate because it allows me to work closely with and uplift other artists and help bring their voices and stories into the light. I want to work with choreographers who lead with humanity and by example in how they treat others. Who tell stories with humanity at the core, because I believe that is what crafts impactful stories and creates connection.
I lead through love; I attempt to live my beliefs through active love. By speaking up when I see humanity diminished and doing my best to own accountability when I am a contributor, as we all are at times.
I lead through words; I’m a writer. Words are powerful. I find I love using them as a tool to share necessary thoughts, but hopefully always with compassion and grace (because change does not and cannot come from tools of oppression, such as shame and dehumanization). Words float around in my head, and when they finally land on the page, they seem to often resonate with people. I use my words to hopefully encourage us all to reflect on our values and whether or not we are practicing integrity — to hopefully provide grace and a space to grow when we face the discomfort of accountability. But mostly to hopefully empower others to find and own their own voices and words.
Leading through my art, with love, and through words — whether as an associate choreographer or performer — I strive to facilitate and create spaces where everyone’s humanity is seen and respected. Spaces that I believe cultivate connection, empowered artists, and impactful art.
I am based in New York City with my husband, creator of Artist Mindset & The Process and NYC photographer, James Jin. Want to create with me? Let me know! I’d love to hear from you!
CURRENTLY…
I am dancing at the Gershwin, having been a part of the Broadway company of WICKED for almost two years after making my Broadway debut in July 2022. Click here to purchase tickets and come see us in the Emerald City!
As an associate choreographer, I most recently worked at Pittsburgh CLO where I worked with Dontee Kiehn as director and Charlie Sutton as choreographer for PCLO’s production of “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.” (Here’s a review from BroadwayWorld of our production!) I was Charlie’s associate choreographer as well as swing and dance captain for the production. I also recently worked with Charlie as his associate choreographer as he choreographed Broadway Media’s Choreography Guides for Theatrical Rights Worldwide’s The Prom! Check out Broadway Media on Instagram for more. Thanks, Charlie for trusting me with your work and choreography!
Choreographed by Elliott Mattox, a ZOOM meeting in the time of working from home goes horribly wrong as all but one of the participants face an insurmountable obstacle - no coffee.
